Trimethylchlorosilane
Trimethylchlorosilane (molecular formula: (CH3)3SiCl), also known as chlorinated trimethylsilane, chlorotrimethylsilane, and trimethylchlorosilane, is a colorless liquid at room temperature and is one of the halogenated silanes. It has many uses in organic synthesis. It is stable in the absence of water, but decomposes when exposed to water to generate hexamethyldisiloxane and hydrochloric acid. It is obtained by reacting methyl chloride and silicon powder in the presence of cuprous chloride and rectifying and purifying. It can also be obtained by nucleophilic substitution reaction of nucleophilic methyl reagents such as methyl lithium and silicon tetrachloride.

Trimethylmonochlorosilane (TMCS for short) is an organosilicon compound with the chemical formula C3H9ClSi.The following is a description of its properties, uses, preparation and safety information:


Properties:

1. Appearance : TMCS is a colorless to slightly yellow liquid.

2. Solubility : TMCS is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, ether and benzene but insoluble in water.

3. Instability: TMCS will gradually hydrolyze in air and produce harmful hydrogen chloride gas.


Uses:

1. Preparation of organosilicon compounds: TMCS can be used as a silicon source in organic synthesis for the preparation of organosilicon compounds, such as silicone oil, silica gel and silicone rubber.

2. Surface modifier: TMCS can be used as a surface modifier to improve the acceptability of material surfaces to inks, dyes and coatings.

3. Chemical catalysts: TMCS can be used as catalysts for chemical reactions to promote certain chemical reactions.

Trimethylchlorosilane Application


1. Due to the special activity of silicon-halogen bonds, starting from trimethylchlorosilane, a series of organosilicon compounds containing silicon-functional group structures can be synthesized, such as trimethylalkoxysilane, hexamethyldisiloxane , hexamethyldisilazane, trimethylcyanosilane, etc.

2. Trimethylchlorosilane is an excellent reagent for introducing trimethylsilyl into organic molecules, and can be used as a protective group for functional groups such as hydroxyl, carboxyl, and amino groups. The reaction of connecting and removing trimethylsilyl groups has high yield, mild conditions and wide application range, and is widely used in organic synthesis.

3. Some biochemical samples are reacted with trimethylchlorosilane to obtain silylated derivatives, which have great volatility, so that the gas chromatography analysis of biochemical samples can be realized.
