Aluminium fluoride is an inorganic substance with the chemical formula aluminium hydroxide or aluminium fluoride made by the reaction of metallic aluminium with hydrogen fluoride, or aluminium chloride with hydrofluoric acid and ammonia. Colourless or white crystal. Insoluble in water, insoluble in acid and alkali. Stable in nature, can be hydrolysed by heating. Used as electrolyte regulator and catalyst for aluminium electrolysis.

Basic information

Application 1:  Used as an electrolytic bath component in aluminum production to reduce the melting point and increase the conductivity of the electrolyte. It is also used as an inhibitor of fermentation in the production of alcohol. Used as a flux for the outer glaze of ceramic ware and for enamelling Chemicalbook enamels and for non-ferrous metals. 

Application 2: It is used as a flux for non-ferrous metals and can be used to make fluorides of other aluminium, used as a flux for non - ferrous metals, used in ceramics, enamel, aluminum smelting and other industries; It is widely used for preparation of doped fluorinated glass and mixed metal fluoride catalyst for synthesis of HFC-134a.

Application 3: Used for welding fluids in metal welding. Used to make optical lenses. It is also used as catalyst for organic synthesis and raw material for cryolite synthesis.

Storage method

Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse. Packed and sealed. It should be stored separately from acids and food chemicals and should not be mixed. Storage areas should be provided with suitable materials to contain spills.

Health hazard: The decomposition product hydrogen fluoride is irritating and can cause irritation of the eyes and mucous membranes of the respiratory tract and in severe cases bronchitis, pneumonia and even reflex asphyxiation. Flammability hazard: The product is non-flammable, toxic and irritating, causing serious damage to mucous membranes, upper respiratory tract, eyes and skin.
