Styrene (C8H8) is an important liquid chemical raw material, is a monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, with olefin side chain and benzene ring conjugation system, is the simplest and most important one of unsaturated aromatic hydrocarbons. Styrene is widely used as a raw material for the production of synthetic resins and synthetic rubber.

It is mainly used as a raw material for polystyrene, synthetic rubber, engineering plastics, ion exchange resins and so on. Styrene polymers and copolymers are widely used in the manufacture of polystyrene plastics, polyesters, protective coatings, resins, and synthetic rubbers (styrene-butadiene rubber).

Styrene is used in a number of industries, particularly in reinforced plastics (e.g., fiberglass boats) and is widely used in the manufacture of plastics and rubbers, packaging materials (e.g., packing peanuts), building insulation, plastic pipes, food containers (e.g., take-out containers), and carpet backing.

Application1: It's used for organic synthesis and resin synthesis; and also used as polystyrene, synthetic rubber, engineering plastics, ion exchange resin and other raw materials; it is used to prepare copper plating brightener for leveling and brightening and electron microscopic analysis, organic synthesis. 

Application2: The most important use is as a monomer of synthetic rubber and plastics, used to produce styrene butadiene rubber, polystyrene, polystyrene foam; It is also used to copolymerize with other monomers to produce a variety of engineering plastics for different purposes, such as ABS resin copolymerized with acrylonitrile and butadiene, which is widely used in various household appliances and industry; SAN copolymerized with acrylonitrile is a bright and impact-resistant resin; SBS copolymerized with butadiene is a thermoplastic rubber, widely used as a modifier of polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, etc.

Application 3 :  In addition, small amounts of styrene are used as intermediates such as spices. Cinnamyl chloride obtained by chloromethylation of styrene is used as the intermediate of the non-narcotic analgesic Qiangtongding.
