Isopropanol (IPA), also known as 2-propanol, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C3H8O. It is an isomer of n-propanol. It is a colorless, transparent liquid with the odor of a mixture of ethanol and acetone. It is soluble in water, alcohol, ether, benzene, chloroform and other organic solvents. Isopropyl alcohol is an important chemical product and raw material, mainly used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, plastics, fragrances, paints and so on.

As a chemical raw material, it can produce acetone, hydrogen peroxide, methyl isobutyl ketone, diisobutyl ketone, isopropylamine, isopropyl ether, isopropyl chloride, isopropyl ester of fatty acids and isopropyl ester of chlorinated fatty acids.

As a solvent, it is a relatively cheap solvent in industry. It is widely used. It can mix freely with water. The solubility of lipophilic substances is stronger than that of ethanol. It can be used as a solvent for nitrocellulose, rubber, paint, wormwood, alkaloids and so on.

In the electronic industry, it can be used as cleaning agent and degreasing agent.

In the petroleum industry, cottonseed oil extractant can also be used for the degreasing of animal tissue membranes.

Isopropyl Alcohol Applications

Widely used as organic raw materials and solvents. As chemical raw material, it can produce acetone, hydrogen peroxide, methyl isobutyl ketone, diisobutyl ketone, isopropylamine, isopropyl ether, isopropyl alcohol, isopropyl chloride, isopropyl fatty acid ester and isopropyl chloride fatty acid ester. In fine chemical industry, it can be used in the production of isopropyl nitrate, isopropyl xanthate, triisopropyl phosphite, aluminum triisopropylate, medicine, pesticide and so on. As a solvent, it can be used in the production of paint, ink, extractant, aerosol and so on.
