Application 1: Industrial use： Acetic acid is a bulk chemical product and one of the most important organic acids. It is mainly used in the production of acetic anhydride, acetate and cellulose acetate. Polyvinyl acetate can be made into films and adhesives, and is also the raw material of synthetic fiber Vinylon. Cellulose acetate can be used to make rayon and motion picture film.

Application 2:  The acetate formed by low alcohol is an excellent solvent, widely used in the paint industry. Acetic acid is also commonly used as an organic solvent (for example, for the oxidation of p-xylene to produce terephthalic acid) because it dissolves most organic matter.

Application 3: Acetic acid can be used in some pickling and polishing solution, in the weak acidic solution as buffer (such as galvanized, electroless nickel plating), in the semi-bright nickel plating electrolyte as an additive, in the passivation solution of zinc, cadmium can improve the bonding force of passivation film, and commonly used to adjust the pH of weak acid plating solution.

Application 6: Food use： In the food industry, acetic acid is used as an acidifier, flavoring agent and spice to make synthetic vinegar. When acetic acid is diluted to 4-5% with water and various flavoring agents are added, the flavor is similar to that of alcoholic vinegar, and the manufacturing time is short and the price is cheap. As sour flavor agent, can be used for compound seasoning, preparation of vinegar, canned, jelly and cheese, according to the production needs of appropriate use. Can also be composed of fragrance enhancers, the use of 0.1 ~ 0.3 g/kg.

Risk

Acetic acid in higher concentrations is corrosive and can cause skin burns, permanent eye blindness, and mucous membrane inflammation, so proper protection is needed. These burns or blisters may not appear right away. Most cases occur several hours after exposure. Latex gloves do not protect, so you should wear special gloves, such as nitrile rubber gloves, when handling acetic acid. Concentrated acetic acid is difficult to burn in the laboratory, but it becomes combustible at ambient temperatures of 39 ° C (102 ° F), above which acetic acid can mix with air and explode (explosion limit 4% to 17% by volume concentration).
