Basic Information
Water reducer is a concrete admixture that can reduce the amount of mixing water while maintaining the slump of concrete. Most of them are anionic surfactants, such as lignosulfonate, naphthalenesulfonate formaldehyde polymer, etc. After being added to the concrete mixture, it can disperse the cement particles, improve its workability, reduce the unit water consumption, and improve the fluidity of the concrete mixture; or reduce the unit cement consumption and save cement.
Appearance forms are divided into water and powder. The solid content of water preparations is generally 20%, 40% (also known as mother liquor), and 60%, and the solid content of powder preparations is generally 98%.
According to the water reducing and strengthening ability of the water reducing agent, it is divided into ordinary water reducing agent (also known as plasticizer, water reducing rate is not less than 8%), high-efficiency water reducing agent (also known as superplasticizer, water reducing rate is not less than 14%) %) and high-performance water reducing agent (water reducing rate not less than 25%), and are divided into early strength type, standard type and retarded type.
According to the composition materials, it is divided into: (1) lignosulfonate; (2) polycyclic aromatic salt; (3) water-soluble resin sulfonate.
Ordinary water reducers are suitable for concrete where the daily minimum temperature is above 5°C. High-efficiency water-reducing agent is suitable for concrete construction with the daily minimum temperature above 0°C, and is suitable for the preparation of high-fluidity concrete, high-strength concrete and steam-cured concrete.
Basic classification

Lignosulfonate: It is a common water reducer, and its raw material is lignin, which is generally extracted from coniferous trees. Lignin is formed by the polymerization of three lignin monomers, p-genool, coniferyl alcohol, and sinapyl alcohol. It can be used in mortar to improve construction, fluidity and strength, and the water reduction rate is 5%-10%.
Naphthalene sulfonate water reducer: It is the earliest high-efficiency water reducer used in my country. It is a product of naphthalene sulfonated with sulfuric acid and then condensed with formaldehyde. It belongs to anionic surfactants. The appearance of this type of water reducing agent can be light yellow to dark brown powder depending on the product. It is easily soluble in water and has a good dispersion effect on many powder materials such as cement. The water reducing rate can reach 25%.
Melamine-based water reducer: It is a product of sulfonated melamine with sulfuric acid, and then condensed with formaldehyde, so the chemical name is sulfonated melamine-formaldehyde resin, which belongs to anionic surfactants. The appearance of this type of water reducer is white powder, easily soluble in water, good dispersion of powder materials, high water reducing rate, good fluidity and self-repairing property.
Powder polycarboxylate: It is a new type of high-performance water reducer developed in recent years. It has excellent water reducing rate, fluidity and permeability. Obviously enhance the strength of cement mortar, but the production process is complicated, and the general price is higher.
Casein: It is a biopolymer obtained after milk has been precipitated with acid and drum dried.
